CNY Celebrations at Zuyd Hogeschool Maastricht

Chinese New year celebrations at Zuyd Hogeschool 2025

On January 27th, 2025, students and staff from CIM and Zuyd came together to celebrate Chinese New Year at the canteen of Zuyd University Maastricht. Chinese New Year is a time of joy, reunion, and tradition. It’s a traditional holiday to gather with family, share delicious food, and celebrate love and togetherness.

To bring the same atmosphere closer, CIM hosted an event where students from CIM and Zuyd had the chance to immerse themselves in traditional Chinese arts and crafts.  To start the New Years strong, everyone was invited to try out Chinese calligraphy on lucky couplets. These are red banners, written in pairs (couplets), expressing blessings for the new year.

Another activity was the Chinese bracelet-making, where the students learned the art of knotting cords into beautiful bracelets. These handcrafted bracelets are believed to ward off negative energy, attract positivity, and symbolize blessings for the person who wears it!

The event also featured Chinese stamping, in which students pressed intricate designs, such a dragons and snakes, onto paper, creating unique imprints that reflected elements of Chinese culture.

We look forward to organizing more opportunities that bring people together through Chinese culture and traditions!
