About the Roundtable Event
In the morning, we invite you to join an in‑depth discussion on the future of Chinese language education and how this knowledge can contribute to employability in the Netherlands. The Roundtable dialogue will take place on Sunday 31 May 2026, from 11:00 to 12:30 at the Wereldmuseum Rotterdam.
Participants who wish to explore the Wereldmuseum before the afternoon program are warmly welcome to do so. Museum entrance tickets can be purchased directly via the Wereldmuseum Rotterdam website.
Our Mission
The Confucius Institute Maastricht & Chinese Language Center Rotterdam supports learners in developing Chinese language skills together with cultural understanding for an international context:
- understanding perspectives across cultures;
- communicating clearly, appropriately and confidently in different situations;
- thinking independently, critically and together with others;
- switching between detail and overview.
Through language and cultural learning, we prepare learners to navigate complexity and act effectively in a changing world.
Events such as this Chinese Bridge competition are part of this mission. They challenge learners to express ideas, respond to different perspectives, and communicate with confidence in real-life situations.
Central Question
The core of the Roundtable discussion revolves around the question:
“If AI can translate languages, can learning a language like Chinese still help people deal with complexity in work and life? How?”
Topics of Dialogue
- How can language learning be linked to employability and meaningful societal contribution?
- What role can language education play in developing internationally‑oriented, future‑ready talent?
Chinese Bridge – Dutch Final
In the afternoon, the Dutch Final of the Chinese Bridge Speech Competition will take place, organised in collaboration with the Education Department of the Chinese Embassy in the Netherlands and the Nuffic China Network.
The final includes:
- 25th Chinese Bridge Competition for University Students
- 19th Chinese Bridge Competition for Secondary School Students
Under the theme “One World, One Family”, participants will present their personal stories in Chinese and show how language broadens their perspective and ambition.
