New Standard
Closely aligned with the HSK 3.0 Level 1 syllabus, the book features covering 40 language points (including core grammar). It is benchmarked against the 300 core vocabulary items of HSK 3.0 Level 1, with appropriate extensions, and carefully selects high-frequency words for everyday communication.
New content
The course is connected through light situational mini-dramas, featuring both Chinese and international characters in authentic overseas campus settings and real-life scenes in China. With coherent storylines and well-developed characters, learners acquire language in immersive contexts and enhance practical communicative competence.
New design
With a clear modular structure, each lesson highlights key components: Objectives – Warm-up – Text – Mini Language Workshop – Xiaoyu’s Easter Eggs – Learning Summary. The design supports both classroom-based instruction and flexible self-paced learning.
Starting from the Spring Semester 2026, the Confucius Institute Maastricht (CIM) is among the first to adopt New HSK 1 Chinese Course, officially stepping into the HSK 3.0 era.
Course Duration
18 lessons of 2 hours each. In addition, 54 hours of self-study are recommended. This course is intended for students who have no knowledge or basic knowledge of the Chinese language. During the course, all aspects of the Chinese language, such as listening, reading, speaking, and writing skills, will be covered.

Language of instruction
This course is taught by one of our experienced native teachers from our partner university in China. The course will be conducted in Chinese/English.

The study materials for the New HSK 1 course are included in the course fee.
Important information
Each course requires a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 15 participants. If a course cannot start, we will inform you in time and refund your course fee.
HSK exam
