Chinese elderly care with a Dutch flavour.
As part of the Sino-Dutch Geriatrics programme Confucius Institute of Zuyd University of Applied Sciences organized a Chinese culture training on March 14. Under the banner of the friendship between Limburg and the Chinese province of Chengdu, the Sino-Dutch Geriatrics programme focuses on talent training activities, organized by the Chengdu Medical College, Zuyd University and the Sichuan Health & Family Planning Commission. The ultimate goal of the programme is the exchange of knowledge en experience in the field of elderly care between both provinces. As preparation of the two-week stay in Chengdu, 20 Dutch experts have followed a Chinese culture training, which was given by the Confucius Institute Maastricht.
Training outline.
During this training specialists of the institute gave a detailed explanation of several aspects of the Chinese culture, the economical development, the Chinese medical system en the situation of the elderly in China. There was also an expert of the University of Maastricht who conducted research into traditional Chinese medicine and its influence on Europe.
It was the first official culture training organized by the Confucius Institute this year. The Confucius Institute hopes to keep playing an important role in the future cooperation between Limburg and Sichuan and for other regional partnerships.
Second meeting
On April 4, the first experts had returned from Chengdu to share their experience and discuss their future plans for the Sino-Dutch Geriatric programme. Confucius Institute once again hosted this meeting, maintaining its supporting role in this programme.
