Show off your Mandarin skills and talents during the Online Chinese Speech Contest!

Challenging circumstances ask for innovation and creative solutions!

Even though education has been disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic, it shouldn’t stop talented students of Chinese from pursuing their dreams and future careers. Therefore, the 19th Chinese Speech Competition for students of higher education will go on as planned on 8 May 2020, but online. This makes it the first ever online speech competition.

In these uncertain times, we will unite together as one family on our online platform to continue this wonderful contest. The Confucius Institute Maastricht (CIM) of course prioritizes the well-being of the participants and will do everything possible to create a safe environment for everyone.

Therefore, this year’s theme, One World, One Family, is now more relevant than ever. We believe that through education, innovation and technology, we can write this new chapter together!

The competition is an international Chinese speech competition which is known throughout the world for offering cultural and educational exchange. It is a great opportunity to demonstrate your Mandarin skills and gain confidence in speaking Chinese. You will also have the chance to win prizes and you will receive a certificate of participation.

To encourage your professional development, the winners will receive the unique opportunity to do an internship with a well-known international company or organization. This will allow you to gain hands-on work experience. Additionally, CIM offers support to the top 8 students with scholarship applications within 2 years.

The competition consists of 3 parts:

  1. A speech on a self-chosen topic around the theme One World, One Family and a brief introduction of yourself in Chinese.
  2. A cultural knowledge quiz: Answer 5 questions about China and its culture. A collection of the competition questions will be released to the qualified contestants at a later date before the competition.
  3. A talent demonstration: Demonstrate one of your talents relating to Chinese culture, such as Chinese calligraphy, poetry reciting, singing, martial arts, paper cutting, mask painting, etc.
