Current information about the Covid-19

Recently there have been some important developments concerning the Covid-19, for example with regard to infection in certain areas in Europe, such as northern Italy and just over the German border at Sittard. The Confucius Institute believes it is important to properly inform its students and visitors about this situation and what this means for, for example, the classes.

What measures does Confucius Institute Maastricht take?

We follow developments closely and also monitor the websites of the RIVM, GGD Zuid-Limburg, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (travel advice) and all kinds of news pages, but at this time we see no reason to (temporarily) close the Confucius Institute and all classes will continue as planned. If circumstances arise for you that prevent you from attending the classes, please contact us as soon as possible so that we can find a suitable solution together.

Tips and information about what to do in certain situations

I have just returned from an infected area, what should I do?

If you came back from China (incl. Hong Kong and Macau), South Korea, Iran, Singapore and parts of Northern Italy, pay attention that you do not get any symptoms, such as (slight) airway complaints (cough or shortness of breath) and fever. Do you feel sick and do you have (mild) symptoms? As a precautionary measure, stay at home and contact your doctor immediately by telephone. If the Covid-19 is detected, inform us as soon as possible.

I live in the border region, what should I do?

Pay close attention if you get symptoms, such as respiratory complaints (cough or shortness of breath) and fever. If you feel sick and have any symptoms, contact your doctor immediately by telephone. If the Covid-19 is detected, inform us as soon as possible. The GGD advises to avoid closed spaces where many German and Dutch people come together. Also view the GGD’s special page about South Limburg and the border region.

Who can I contact if I don’t have a doctor?

Then contact the GGD Zuid-Limburg, telephone 088-880 5005.

I have symptoms, what should I do?

If you have a cold or respiratory complaints, you don’t have to worry about having the Covid-19. Certainly not if you have not recently been to an area where the virus has spread widely. The chance is much greater that you just have the flu or another cold virus.

If you:

  • have a fever and respiratory complaints (cough or shortness of breath); and have been in a country with a widespread spread of the Covid-19 for the past two weeks;
  • or have been in contact with a patient with the new Covid-19 in the past two weeks;

We urgently request you not to come to the Confucius institute and to contact your doctor immediately by telephone.

What measures can you take yourself to prevent spread?

You can take a number of measures yourself to prevent the spread of the Covid-19:

  • Wash your hands regularly with soap
  • Cough and sneeze in the inside of your elbow (and not in your hand)
  • Use paper tissues

View the RIVM website for more information about preventing contamination.
