Annual Event July 6

On July 6 Confucius Institute Maastricht will celebrate its 1-year anniversary with an annual event. Exactly one year ago Zuyd University, in cooperation with the Chinese Dalian University of Finance and Economics, opened the Confucius Institute Maastricht. During this celebration the entire advisory board, Board of Directors and the Chinese team will be introduced to the public. We will also give an overview of the activities of the past year and announce the plans for 2019-2022. This will all be alternated with various cultural performances, including a Chinese hip-hop dance group and several traditional Chinese performances

The public will mainly consist of the representatives of the most important partners, the local government and educational institutions, professionals, businessmen and students. Everyone is more than welcome!

Keynote Speakers

The annual event will have several important guest speakers. They will give speeches about the key to intercultural communication and cooperation. The speakers are listed below:

Mike G.W. De Leeuw

Founder of OncoLize – CEO at Hy2Care BV Maastricht, Limburg Province, Netherlands

Earlier in Mike’s cooperate career at DSM, he was asked to lead the business unit in DSM Nanjing, where he experienced China at the early opening up stage about 20 years ago. Along the way, his entrepreneurial spirit embraced him further on helping people with his technology in healthcare. Making healthcare technology beneficial for patients and doctors alike and affordable became his mission. He focuses on Oncology; In the past 12 years he has started up 3 companies in localized and sustained drug delivery for Cancer, Diabetes, CNS and Orthopedics.






Mark Pluymaekers

Professor at Zuyd Hogeschool
Maastricht Area, Netherlands

Mark is professor of International Relationship Management at Zuyd Hogeschool. Early in his study career, Mark studied Japanese at the Oriental Languages and Communication Department at Zuyd. From the west to the east, he developed himself further in topics such as intercultural communication and professional communication skills. Together with his research team, he is currently conducting research into intercultural competencies and the application of artificial intelligence in business communication.





Matt Heckman

Principal Lecturer at Maastricht University Maastricht Area, Netherlands

Matt is an experienced Senior Researcher/ Principal Lecturer with a demonstrated history of working in the international higher education industry. He sepcializes in International and European La, Intellectual Property Rights Management, Technology Transfer. He has extensive working experience in Emerging Markets, especially in China. Matt is a strong research professional with a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) focused in Intellectual Property Law/Competition Law from Maastricht University.






Xuefei Knoester-Cao

Dutch Director of Groningen Confucius Institute Senior Policy Advisor in the area of International Relations to the Board of the University of Groningen

Xuefei Knoester-Cao (曹雪飞) is the Dutch Director of Groningen Confucius Institute and Senior Policy Advisor in the area of International Relations to the Board of the University of Groningen. She holds a Master’s degree in International Business from the University of Groningen. She is also the Board member of the European Study Centre in Tsinghua University and Project leader of Dutch Studies Centre in Fudan University, China. She has worked, among others, as a business consultant in Shanghai and as a researcher in economics in Netherlands Economic Institute. She has published both in China and internationally in international business.









Xining Song

Professor, Jean Monnet Chair ad personam Renmin University of China; Brussels Academy for China and European Studies Chinese Director of Confucius Institute at VUB, Belgium

Prof. Dr. Xinning Song is Jean Monnet Chair ad personam at Centre for European Studies, Renmin University of China in Beijing. He is serving as Research Director of the Centre for European Studies at RUC. He is the one of the most reknown reasearchers on European study in China, serving as chief of many research institutions, such as the Brussels Academy of China and European Studies, Institute on Comparative Regional Integration Studies at Tsinghua University (Tsinghua-CRIS) in Beijing, and Research Associate of United Nations University Institute on Comparative Regional Integration Studies (UNU-CRIS) in Bruges, Belgium. He is also China Director of Confucius Institute at VUB, Belgium.
